Luke Sweeney’s band has a full cast of notable players, together they whip up a vast spectrum of songs into a magnetic force. With appearances at SXSW, CMJ, Noise Pop and various other festivals, Luke Sweeney has drawn in an audience who hear something familiar yet mysteriously new.
Oona Garthwaite, Erin Elskes joined me in Studio 18 at Music City Rehearsal. Their third member Ryder Freed was unable to join us for this interview, but was there in spirit. Alvie and The Breakfast Pigs released their first EP in San Francisco in 2014, however the band traces their beginnings back a few years to the lead singer Alex Alfie Adams’ house in Tempe, Arizona. At that time, the house was called “Breakfast” and the band members were referred to as pigs. The name stemed from the band mates mooching eating habits, and the fact that they were always present when Alvie made breakfast.
Winner of Music City SF’s Battle of the Bands in July and many other battles around the bay … check out Bay Area band Unlikely Heroes. The band met at Music City Rehearsal and embodies the mission statement of Music City SF, which is to foster community in SF and create the future of music in SF.
